Sirus launched our 2^nd Passenger Up Front vehicle in 2009, the Volkswagen Caddy ‘U-Can’. This vehicle allows the wheelchair user to travel up front next to the driver yet from the comfort of your own chair. Being a much more sociable way of traveling, you can actually see what the driver sees!

Design

The Caddy offers all of the benefits of a compact vehicle conversion. Not only is it economical, you will have no problems parking – you don’t even need a disabled access space as you enter the vehicle from the rear as opposed to the side. The vehicle also offers an internal transfer, ideally suited for individuals who travel solo and wish to eliminate the risks and strains which can be encountered with an external transfer. Also an internal transfer option takes the inconvenience out of transferring when it’s raining for example.

Further more, if you use a mobility scooter for outings you can also benefit from either an internal transfer if you are less able bodied, or for transporting scooter and chair combinations. The car can also be set up to carry two wheelchair users in tandem safely.

Safety

Sirus fit an automatic locking device to the vehicle floor which will lock your wheelchair safely in position. Once in position, your wheelchair will automatically be locked into place, and released with a simple push of a button. Depending on your individual needs and what is compatible with your chair, we will recommend one of two extremely high quality locking devices:

Designed and manufactured by Q Straint, the QLK-100 has been fully crash tested and designed to improve user operation.

Dock N Lock by Unwins safety Systems has designed a neat and compact system for chairs with a lower ground clearance and powerchairs up to 200g.

Economical

With the automatic gearbox featuring VW’s patented DSG transmission, you will experience an extremely smooth journey. Plus with the engine offering up to 50 miles per gallon, it’s also extremely economical to run.

Quality

The vehicle is UK Low Volume Type Approved. This ensures the vehicle meets all required standards after the full conversion.

Wheelchair securing systems

Included in the price of the vehicle is a 4 point manual tie down system. Alternatively if your carer is less able, we can easily fit a fully automated locking system for ease of use, simply click your key fob and your chair will be safely and securely locked into position.
