Sirus sponsor 2011 Disabled Motoring UK Award
Disabled Motoring UK are holding their first awards at a prestigious ceremony at the Goodwood Hotel during the Goodwood Revival Festival this September. Sirus are to sponsor the Get Going Award, which will honour a Disabled Motoring UK member who has worked to inspire and engage with young people with disabilities in order to improve their mobility.
Taking place on Friday 16th September, the awards will celebrate and recognise those people and organisations that have made a positive contribution to the day-to-day lives of disabled individuals or inspired them to live their lives to full, regardless of their circumstances. The Goodwood Revival Festival is the world’s most popular historic motor race meeting and the hope is that by running the awards alongside the nostalgic festival, the advancements made for disabled motorists will be clear and will help inspire another generation of achievement.
The categories for the awards include; the ‘Best Accessible Day Out’, ‘Happy Holidays’, ‘Effective Enforcement’, ‘Best Parking’, ‘Mobility Product of the Year’ to name a few. Nominations for each award came from members of Disabled Motoring UK and feature a range of companies and individuals from around the UK and beyond. Amongst the nominees for the ‘Get Going’ Award is motor-racing star Nicolas Hamilton, who is currently competing in the Renault Clio Cup, whilst the Manchester United Disabled Supporters Association are up for the Accessible Days Out Award. A team of judges from Disabled Motoring UK, the British Parking Association and Disabled Motoring UK’s marketing and events team The Lively Crew will decide the winners.

Sirus launch the next generation VW Caddy
Our I Can ‘Drive From Wheelchair’, U Can ‘Passenger Up Front’ and Active ‘Internal Transfer’ conversions are now based on the eagerly awaited Generation 2 Volkswagen Caddy.
Throughout 2010, VW have been working on their facelift version of the Caddy – whilst updating the vehicle to be fully compliant with European Legislation, VW made some slight changes; firstly the engine now offers a 1.6 diesel and a 7 speed DSG gearbox. The advantage of this being your vehicle is more fuel economical, yet still has the power of a 1.9 engine. There were also some aesthetic changes to the front of the vehicle.
Sirus has also made some slight improvements to our original design, reacting to your feedback and ideas. The fine tuning now means the vehicle offers:
- Re-designed full remote entry and exit system giving you 100% freedom and independence ensuring complete reliability and safety.
- Up to two optional fold down seats in the rear. This allows you to have the benefit of space for up to 5 people yet remain in a compact vehicle as opposed to a large van based conversion.
- More compact centre console which retains the original gear selector. This gives even more space and manoeuvrability for the chair user. It also reduces the effort required from the driver as the selector has a much lighter operation.
- Optional flattened drivers door panel giving extra interior space for larger chairs and folding chair controllers.
- Quick release service seat – new and improved system for use by able bodied family members and carers.
As standard the vehicle provides power steering, climatic air conditioning, electric windows, electric heated mirrors, RDS Radio with CD player, body coloured bumpers & mirrors, front fog lamps.

Downing St Event
Sirus Automotive were invited to attend number 10 Downing Street where one of our converted Renault Kangoo vehicles was presented to a valued customer – Cassandra Sohal, 25, who has been paralysed from the chest down since birth. She was one of three Motability customers to be officially presented with the keys to their Motability Scheme cars by the Prime Minister, on Wednesday 10 September. The event not only marked the 30th anniversary of the Scheme but also the milestone of reaching 500,000 cars on the road. Motability has supplied over 2 and a half million cars in total since its inception 30 years ago. Russell Venvil, co-director and Vicky Crees, Marketing Manager for Sirus both attended the event.
Russell commented “Sirus were hugely privileged to be chosen from many vehicle conversion companies to attend this event. It was an amazing experience for all, especially to meet the Prime Minister in person. After the PM presented the keys to the Kangoo to Cassandra, we were invited into Downing St for a tour. We saw where the PM meets fellow world leaders, his dining room where he was about to have lunch with the Italian Prime Minister. The Downing St event has topped off what has been an extremely successful year so far for Sirus“.
