Sirus Automotive Disability Sports Programme
Sirus Automotive has recently begun working with the English Federation of Disability Sports and the Albion Foundation to promote disability sports through local schools.
Sport plays a vital role in so many people’s lives and can often be a way to increase confidence and self esteem whilst promoting a positive outlook on life, not to mention fitness and social rehabilitation.
The Albion Foundation
The Albion Foundation works closely with West Bromwich Albion Football Club to deliver sporting and educational opportunities to the people of Sandwell and the surrounding boroughs. Formed in 1992, the Foundation became a registered charity in 2001. Their disability programme provides sporting and educational opportunities regardless of physical or mental impairment.
The support received from Sirus has enabled a programme of sports coaching to be developed and delivered across the West Midlands. Over the next year, the WBA Foundation coaches will visit a number of special schools and schools with Special Educational Needs Units to hold regular coaching sessions for powerchair football. This school based programme encourages pupils to take part in the sport and provides an access route for pupils to get involved in club based activities.

The English Federation of Disability Sports is a charity and national body formed in 1998 with a responsibility for the promotion and development of sporting opportunities for all disabled people in England. The EFDS works closely with all the National Governing Bodies of Sport to enable them to learn how to provide sporting provision for disabled people.
Their foundation is linked to the six National Disability Sports Organisations; British Blind Sport, CP Sport, Wheelpower, British Amputee and Les Autres Association and Special Olympics UK. EFDS are recognised and funded by Sport England to develop sporting opportunities for the estimated 11 million disabled people in England.

npower disability sports awards
Albion Players haven’t enjoyed much success at the Villa over recent years, but have finally left the ground as firm winners. Villa Parks plush Holte suite was the venue for the annual
npower disability sports awards, run by the English Federation of Disability Sports, (EFDS) where the Albion bagged the prestigious award for the Midlands region for their ‘One Albion’ project. This award category is open to organisations who operate at least at county level and have demonstrated their commitment to introducing and sustaining sport within the disabled community. One Albion beat off competition from the British Rowing Association and Worcester Warriors RFC who were also short listed to the top prize. Jamie Bunch, the Albion Foundations sporting director commented “This recognition is well deserved and underlines the hard work of our staff, partners and participants. Special thanks must go to our sponsors including Sirus Automotive for their generous funding”.

West Bromwich Albion disabled supporters club annual dinner
Sirus Automotive were invited to West Bromwich Albion disabled supporters club annual dinner at the ground at the end of April. We had the privilege to watch the first team train, eat with sporting legend Bob Taylor and then mingle with the team and manager Roberto Di Matteo. The day was a wonderful experience and widened the awareness of our various mobility solutions.
